Hardik Pandya should lead Team India in at least the last 2 T20Is against South Africa

Hardik Pandya, Six Sports

When the Gujarat Titans won under the able captainship of Hardik Pandya, he drew plaudits from all over India and the world.

Many former cricketers praised Pandya as captain and said he has proved himself quite a capable leader in this year’s IPL.

Thus, BCCI should have given him a chance to lead the Indian team against the Proteas at home.

But, the board decided to go with Rishabh Pant instead.

Pandya is now Pant’s deputy in the ongoing series.

Pant has not been able to lead the Indian troops well.

As for Pandya, he knows how to rotate bowlers well and also sets the fields accordingly for his bowlers.

Pant has not been able to do that as of now and very few of his decisions have proven to be right.

There are three reasons why Hardik Pandya should be leading India in at least the last 2 T20Is.

Firstly, the captaincy of Hardik Pandya became the talk of the town after Gujarat Titans clinched their maiden title.

Secondly, Rishabh Pant has been playing cricket constantly for a while now.

BCCI could have allowed Pant to take a rest from the home series.

But, it wasn’t meant to be as Pant is now leading the side. After this Pant has 7 international games to play.

He should be rested for at least the last 2 T20Is so that he remains fresh.

Pant will be leaving for England on the 19th of June.

Lastly, now is the best time to test Pandya’s captaincy because Ireland may not be a suitable opponent to test his leadership skills.

Pandya needs a stronger team to showcase his captaincy skills and South Africa is his current best bet.
