Hardik Pandya to lead the Indian side in Rohit’s absence, and Yash Dhull likely to receive a call-up

The Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI) is likely to announce the squad for the Sri Lanka series on Tuesday. Rohit Sharma is likely to miss the Sri Lanka series as he has not yet recovered from the thumb injury. KL Rahul also might miss the series due to his marriage. Hardik Pandya might lead the side in the absence of the captain and vice-captain. 

Chetan Sharma and the committee have a huge task of selecting a squad with several players missing.

“Chetan and his committee are still watching domestic cricket. They watched the full Vijay Hazare Trophy and also the first two rounds of the Ranji Trophy. Debasish Mohanty was present at Eden Gardens to watch Bengal vs Himachal Pradesh. Basically, they got a two-month extension till December 25,”

the BCCI official told PTI.

Virat Kohli to miss the T20Is

Virat Kohli might miss the T20Is due to workload management. He also missed the T20Is against New Zealand as he asked for a break. As of yet, no decision is taken on the future of Rohit and Virat. 

Other notable inclusions

Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja is likely to return after a long break from international cricket. 

Yash Dhull, another impressive youngster might get a callup to the national squad. Dhull, a 20-year-old captain of the star-studded Delhi Ranji team, has won praise for his sound technique and stroke selection in domestic cricket. He gained notoriety for scoring 363 runs at an astounding average of 72.60 during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. His strike rate when batting was 131.52.
