Harrison Ashby set for West Ham first-team promotion

West Ham

The Scotland international is rated highly by David Moyes and he is likely to hand him a place in the squad this season

Harrison Ashby has impressed a lot last season with his performances for West Ham United in the Under 23 squad as well as for the first team. This year, Ashby is set to be promoted from the under-23 team to the West Ham first team. Ashby is one of the biggest talents of West Ham. He was in blistering form for the Hammer’s under-23 team last season. Ashby plays mainly in the right-back for the West Ham under 23

Ashby signed for West Ham United at the tender age of nine years. He has played with the Hammer youth team for a whopping eleven years, from 2010 to 2021. He made his professional first-team debut with West Ham on 15th September 2020. His debut was against Charlton Athletic in a second-round FA cup fixture. Moreover, he made his Premier League debut against Arsenal on 15th December 2021.

Former West Ham captain Mark Noble has praised Ashby quite heavily. Noble has praised Ashby’s “real physical stature” and technical ability. Noble has the following to say about Ashby:

“Technically he is also very good, and for him, it’s just about getting that experience around us and around the first team. When he’s come in, he has looked really strong. He fully deserved his Premier League debut this year”

This season is a pivotal moment in the career of Harrison Ashby

The Athletic has claimed that David Moyes is looking to integrate him into the squad this year. He has been included in the squad for pre-season and has improved his aforementioned physicality by leaps and bounds in the preseason. However, his main challenge this season, which can’t be fixed by increasing his physical stature (although it is bound to help), is the replication of his previous blistering form. He has all the qualities required for a player to make it in the premier league. The 20-year-old is a very solid and physical defender. Moreover, he possesses a real attacking threat when on the attack as well. He will be battling Vladamir Coufal and Ben Johnson for the right-back position of the West Ham team.
