Harry Winks May Be On His Way To Everton

Everton

Sky Sports are report that Harry Winks is set to leave Tottenham Hotspur. Everton are the most interested in the England international’s services. Harry Winks has fallen down the pecking order at Spurs under Antonio Conte. The Enfield graduate found his game time limited after the emergence of Oliver Skipp in the first team.

The signing of Rodrigo Bentancur from Juventus further reduced his game time. Now, with the arrival of Yves Bissouma and potentially Christian Eriksen, Winks’ minutes will be sparse. Frank Lampard has expressed an interest in signing Winks. The departure of Andre Gomes is likely, and Winks can be a capable replacement for the Portuguese.

Winks To Everton: What Has Been Reported

Sky Sports football journalist Ben Grounds has reported that Lampard will appreciate Winks’ experience in the squad.

Frank Lampard has understandably been forced to be cautiously selective with his transfer targets so far this summer. With that in mind, the need to bolster areas that have been depleted through player departures has to be achieved with a dose of realism and no shortage of creativity.

Defender James Tarkowski is arriving on a free transfer from relegated Burnley while Harry Winks would bring further experience to the midfield having made 128 Premier League appearances with Tottenham.

Winks can be an upgrade over the outgoing Fabian Delph. Although his end product seems to be lacking, his underlying creative numbers are surprising. He has registered nearly double of Delph’s final third passes and chances created.

His defensive numbers are not as good though. However, when paired with a midfielder who can do the dirty work for him, Winks can thrive with more freedom. Allan and Abdoulaye Doucouré are two such players who can complement him very well. Winks was a promising young midfielder at Spurs once upon a time. The last few years, however, have seen him regress. Maybe a new club can help him resurrect his career, and give him an outside shot at the World Cup squad.
