‘He still has a lot left in him’ – Verstappen on Ricciardo’s future

Daniel Ricciardo is still looking for a seat for next year as his old teammate Max Verstappen makes his prediction on the future of the Australian.

Verstappen believes that Ricciardo could eventually benefit from leaving McLaren. The duo was teammates in Red Bull from 2016 to 2018.

The Australian however, left the team for Renault in 2019 before moving to McLaren in 2021. The move however has not worked well for him.

McLaren’s car simply never suited Ricciardo’s driving style and now he is a free agent for 2023. The team decided to axe Ricciardo after a series of disappointing performances. The 33-year-old will be replaced by his Australian counterpart Oscar Piastri in 2023.

Verstappen and Ricciardo had a brilliant relationship during their time as teammates. The reigning world champion wants to see his old teammate on the grid next year:

“Daniel is a great driver, we had a really good time when we were together,”

Verstappen said.

“He was a really nice guy to work with as well.

“Yes, he has had his difficulties at McLaren, the car just didn’t really suit his driving style, but yeah, I hope he can continue because I think he still has a lot left in him to perform.

“I really hope that he will get a seat somewhere in F1, so he can show his talent again.”

“He had a contract for one more year but at one point, you know, sometimes it’s better to say: hey, this is not working out, we need to find something new,”

he added.

“I think it’s for both sides, for the team and for himself, so this might actually be good for him.”

Ricciardo is being linked with multiple teams for a potential seat for the 2023 season.
