Carlos Alcaraz claimed that in his initial matches as the top-ranked player, he did not experience any additional strain.
Alcaraz took an aircraft after clinching the US Open and flew straight from New York to Valencia.
As Spain advanced to the Davis Cup elimination round on Sunday, Alcaraz crushed Sonwoo Kwon of South Korea 6-4, 7-6(1).
Alcaraz was asked whether playing as the best player in the world added any extra pressure after the game.
“He would tell you, yes, but I haven’t felt it. I heard Medvedev say that he felt the pressure of being No. 1, that he thought he was going to be the best, that he thought it would be easier.
In my case, maybe it’s because I’ve played the Davis Cup and I’ve had the warmth of all the people behind me, I haven’t played alone, so it seemed easier to me.
We’ll see in an individual tournament, when I’m alone on the court, how I handle that pressure,
Alcaraz added.
Alcaraz, 19, had a pretty good season, taking home two Masters titles and a Grand Slam.
Alcaraz acknowledges that he currently aims to win both the ATP Finals and the Davis Cup Finals to close out his current campaign.
“Now I have a few tournaments left until the end of the season,
but it is clear that one of my big goals is to win the ATP Finals and also the Davis Cup.
Finishing the year as number 1 in the world would also be good; once I have reached up to here, the intention is to work to be up there as long as possible”,
Alcaraz stated.
Ramos discusses Carlos Alcaraz
Albert Ramos deserves to be a regular player even if he hasn’t, in all likelihood, increased spectators since the beginning of his career.
Without an unexpected setback, the Spaniard, who is now ranked 40th in the globe,
will finish a season in the top 50 for the eighth time in his career.
Ramos recently talked about his 19-year-old compatriot Carlos Alcaraz’s spectacular rise in an interview with the Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo.
“I know him very well and I also played against him. Never beat him (smiles). I lost a match, with a match point in my favor, at Roland Garros.
Alcaraz is a great player. With a lot of power and very fast. If he doesn’t get injured, he will be a great player for many years.
Moreover, the fact that Novak Djokovic does not play every tournament has allowed Alcaraz to reach the number one spot.”
