How Crucial was Mohamad Salah Against Manchester City?

Liverpool vs Manchester City was one of the best games to watch for a football fan this season with Mohamad Salah stealing the show. Lauded by many as the best match of the season to date. The thrilling game ended in a 2-2 draw which did feel like the fair scoreline for the game.

While the tactics of both the managers could be seen being played out with fine precision. The players from either team gave their best on the pitch and the fans in the stadium made sure the players realise it.

One player who stole the spotlight in the game against Manchester City was Mohamad Salah, the winger from Liverpool. The 29-year-old didn’t fail to prove his value on the pitch. The player before this game had already scored 5 goals. Which had placed him as the joint top goal scorer in the league with Jamie Vardy.

While Liverpool didn’t start the game with their strongest line-up due to injuries within the squad. The players who came in made sure to play their part. Manchester City on the other hand started with their strongest squad in the league. While the team has the squad depth to play two starting 11’s if needed.

Mohamad Salah Stole The Show Against Manchester City

During the game, Liverpool starts the first half very slow. While having a very similar amount of possession of the ball. Manchester City took 7 shots while Liverpool took 1. While on the defensive aspect Liverpool’s team as a whole tackled more and made more interceptions. In the first half, Salah was made to stay forward while Liverpool looked to attack the counter. This idea didn’t come much to play as then Manchester City shifted to the 4-4-2 in defence.

While it helped to cover the wide parts of the pitch, this changed helped Mohmad Salah to play to his suited style of player. According to his average position heat map, he was in the far-right position, hugging the touchline. During the game, he scored a beautiful goal after making a run into the box. While at the same time provided an assist to the earlier goal by Sadio Mane. He had a pass accuracy of 84% while providing 2 key passes. While at the same time completed 5 dribbles and made 4 tackles during the game.

It was Mohmad Salah’s best performance yet this season for Liverpool.  One Should also note the player just has 2 years left on his current contract with it expiring in the summer of 2023.
