Raheem Sterling has played for some of the best Premier League clubs over the years. Sterling started his career with the Liverpool academy, before making his senior team debut in 2012. In 2015, Sterling moved to Manchester City, where he won four Premier League titles along with other domestic trophies. With City, Sterling made 339 appearances and scored 131 goals during this time period. In the summer of 2022, the 29-year-old left City to join Chelsea on a five-year contract. Now, he is about to start a chapter of his career with Arsenal.
Raheem Sterling joined the Gunners on the deadline day of this summer transfer window on loan from Chelsea. Chelsea were desperate to offload Sterling from their squad, after their new manager, Enzo Maresca, said that if Sterling stayed at the club, he would not get much playing time. So, Sterling also decided to look for a new club. Arsenal raised their hand to help Sterling. Mikel Arteta and Raheem Sterling worked together during their time at Manchester City. So, the Gunners and Arteta were looking for a new winger, they ended up signing Sterling on loan.
What does the future with Arsenal offer Raheem Sterling?
Raheem Sterling made his Arsenal debut last week against Tottenham Hotspur, in the North London Derby. It was expected that Sterling would make his debut in that match as some of the high-profile players were not available, including captain Martin Odegaard, and Declan Rice. However, Sterling came off the bench just 10 minutes before the end of the match. Arsenal ended up winning the match by a margin of one goal.
Sterling left Chelsea and joined Arsenal to have more playing time as the Chelsea boss had no plans with the Englishman. After joining the Gunners, Sterling became the highest-paying player in the squad. However, half of his wages are paid by the Blues. Arsenal have no option or obligation to buy him permanently in the future. That means he will go back to Stamford Bridge after the season.
Raheem Sterling has the better chance to win the Premier League as Arsenal came extremely close in the last two seasons to win the title. Meanwhile, Chelsea are far away from winning the title, finishing outside of the top 5 in the past two seasons. The Blues failed to qualify for the Champions League after finishing 6th in the table in the last season. The Blues are in the UEFA Conference League, while Arsenal compete in the Champions League. So, it is a better opportunity for Raheem Sterling to showcase his talent at the big stages.
