Arsenal wanted to appoint a new sporting director in March, Andrea Berta to take over the mantle. Since Edu Gasper’s departure in November, the Gunners were looking for a new sporting director. The management was very keen to find a perfect name to fill his shoes. Andrea Berta was their top candidate to fit in the role. The 53-year-old Italian has a huge reputation to his name. Spending more than a decade in Atletico Madrid, he decided to leave them in January.

Berta had many offers from other European clubs. Many Sporting Director spots were vacant for him. Since 2002 Berta has had a quiet journey. He spent almost 12 years in Atletico Madrid from 2013 to 2025. He was the key behind the recruitment and execution for the Spanish club.

For starters, Sporting Director is someone who links the management with the football side. He is responsible for the recruitment and execution of the players on and off the field.
