‘I see a weakening for Ferrari’ – Marko not impressed by Binotto axing

Ferrari 2023

Mattia Binotto stepped down from the role of Team Principal of Scuderia Ferrari – a move which did not seem to impress Helmut Marko.

Ferrari struggled to put up a competitive title challenge in 2022. The failure majorly came down to the management of the team. This ultimately led to Mattia Binotto stepping down from his role as the team principal. Ferrari management was rather quick to replace the Italian with Fred Vasseur. Former team principal of Alfa Romeo left the side to join the prancing horse.

Red bull chief advisor Helmut Marko talked about the sacking of Mattia Binotto in a recent interview. He believes the sacking of Binotto will not answer the questions raised against the squad:

“In the case of Ferrari, I don’t quite understand the change,”

said the Austrian.

“I consider Binotto to be an excellent technician and politician. He was simply overwhelmed by the task.”

But it would have been enough to put a sports director at his side to support him at the track and with the strategy.”

“With the new man, who has many other jobs, I see a weakening for Ferrari.”

Marko feels Ferrari will be weekend due to the appointment of Vasseur. Regardless, the time of adaptation of the new management staff might lead to a slow start for the upcoming 2023 season.

While Ferrari failed in their 2022 title campaign, red bull finished the season at an unprecedented high for them. Max Verstappen won the Drivers’ championship scoring a record-breaking 15 wins. On the other hand, the constructors’ title crown also returned to the Milton Keynes based squad after almost a decade.
