India must choose Deepak Chahar in ODI cricket

Yesterday, in the first ODI against Zimbabwe, Deepak Chahar once again was in the mix of things for India.

He picked up 3 wickets while conceding only 27 runs in his first five overs of the match. He then did not bowl any overs during the middle or fag end of the innings.

It shows that Chahar has not lost touch with the game although he last played an international fixture in February this year.

Chahar himself admitted after the match that he has picked up from where he left off. Zimbabwe were all out for 189.

India required only 190 runs which were easily scored by Shikhar Dhawan and Shubman Gill. No wickets fell and thus the visitors won the game by 10 wickets.

But, India needs a solution in a pacer who can play the 50-over format for the team in the long run and Deepak Chahar fits the bill with his skills in batting and bowling.

There are three reasons why India should choose Deepak Chahar for the 50-over format.

The first of these is that at present India does not have a proper swing bowler in the format. Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s physical health does not allow him to play ODIs.

Additionally, Chahar has been consistent with the ball in the ODIs and has a great economy of 5.12. If India gives consistent chances to Chahar, it will bring the best out of him.

The second reason is that Chahar is a much better all-rounder than Shardul Thakur. Although both have abilities that are unique, it is Chahar who can do massive destruction with both bat and ball.

That’s why he should be in the ODI team for India.

The third and final reason for picking Chahar is that the 30-year-old has shown a lot of promise since starting his international career in 2018 for India.

Chahar also has the best bowling figures in T20Is which are 6/7. Also, he has always rescued India from many pressure situations in ODIs.

So, these are the top three reasons why India must include Deepak Chahar into the ODI fold.
