India has become the second and final team to be featured in the first-ever World Test Championship. They are now the No. 1 test team as well. They will face New Zealand in the final in England. On Saturday, India defeated England by an inning and 25 runs and won the series by 3-1.
Keeping aside the pitch controversy of the pink ball test, the fourth and final match of the series fans were expecting a tough battle between India and England.
England won the toss and elected to bat first. But the poor forms of the English openers continued in this match also. Local lad Axar Patel picked their wickets early.
Bairstow 28(67) tried to fight back but lost his wicket to Siraj. The performance of the English skipper Joe Root was also very poor. He also gave his wicket to Siraj, misjudging the ball and given LBW by the umpire.
The pitch was not that much difficult as it was seen in the last match. A good partnership had been built by Olie Pope and Ben Stokes but that didn’t cross 50 at all. This time Washington Sundar got Stokes 55(121) and Ashwin got the wicket of Pope 29(87). After that Daniel Lawrence made some crucial runs 46(74).
The excellent bowling performance of the spin brigade was seen again. Axar took 4 wickets, Ashwin 3 wickets. England had put 205 runs on the board. While chasing India also lost early wickets. Shubhman gill went for a duck. Pujara 17(66) was also seen in his shadows. Rohit Sharma scored 49 runs and missed his half-century.
Virat Kohli also couldn’t find his scoring charisma. He went for a duck as well. The depth of the Indian Batting recent days has favoured the tea, in most cases. Rishabh Pant scored a century in the first innings 101(118).
Sundar missed maiden century on the third day of India vs England last test match:
But the tragedy part happened on the third day. A spectacular partnership was running between Sundar and Axar. While Sundar was at 96* Axar got run out. In the next over Stokes picked the wicket of Siraj and Ishant Sharma and Sundar missed his maiden test hundred.
The inclusion of Dom Bess was such a waste for the England team. On the other hand, experienced pacer James Anderson picked up 3 wickets and bowled 14 maiden overs of his 25 overs spell in the 1st innings. Stokes bowled well and picked up 4 wickets. India Scored 365 runs in the first innings.
The pitch was acting differently from the first day. But the inability to play quality spin has always become an issue for the England Batsmen. Again the openers failed to reach double digits. Joe root scored 30 runs and Lawrence 50(95).
But that was not enough. The Aswin-Axar duo demolished the English batting line-up. Both picked up 5 wickets each. England’s 2nd innings got closed at 135 runs.
Rishabh Pant got the award of Man of the Match and RaviChandran Ashwin became the Man of The Series.
