Indian wicket-keeper, Taniya Bhatia claims she was robbed at her official hotel room in London.
Indian women’s cricket team arrived for a bilateral series in England. India lost the T20 series by 2-1. However, they fought back hard in the 3-match ODI series. The women in blue registered a historic clean sweep on England’s home turf after 23 years. The third and final ODI took place at the iconic Lords ground in London. Veteran Indian legend, Jhulan Goswami closed curtains on her 2-decade-long career.
India’s celebrations were short-lived as a massive controversy erupted in the final ODI. Indian spinner, Deepti Sharma bowled the 44th over of the chase. Deepti ran out Charlie Dean at the nonstriker’s end. Dean was batting at 47 when the incident happen. Deepti spotted Dean walking out of the crease before she could release the ball. She stopped, turned backward, and clipped the bails. Dean was declared out under the Mankad rule and England lost the game. Dean broke down on the field.
The entire English cricket fraternity is fuming. Many former cricketers and critics have slammed Deepti for violating the “Spirit of Cricket”. However, many world and Indian cricketers have hailed Deepti for her brilliant display of presence of mind. Amid this debate, another controversy broke out.
“Stole my bag with cash, cards…,” Taniya Bhatia robbed at her team hotel room
Indian wicketkeeper, Taniya Bhatia claimed that she was robbed at her team’s hotel room in London. She took to Twitter and posted wrote a tweet describing her orderly. She wrote that an unidentified personnel walked into her room and stole her valuable belongings.
“Shocked and disappointed at Marriot Hotel London Maida Vale management; someone walked into my personal room and stole my bag with cash, cards, watches, and jewelry during my recent stay as a part of the Indian Women’s Cricket team. So unsafe”
“Hoping for a quick investigation and resolution of this matter. Such lack of security at ECB cricket’s preferred hotel partner is astounding. Hope they will take cognizance as well”
The Marriott hotel has responded to the allegation.
The Marriott Hotel has responded to the alleged tweet and said that they will investigate the matter.
“Hi Taniya, we are sorry to hear this. Please DM us your name and the email address you made the reservation with and the exact dates of your stay. so we can look into this further”
Taniya Bhatia was a part of the 15-member squad for the series but did not get a game. She last featured in the semi-final of the Commonwealth Games 2022 against England.
