The three-time champions side Chennai Super Kings(CSK) are ready to start their 2021 Indian Premier League season with lots of positivity. M.S. Dhoni, the skipper, has joined the practice camp much earlier than other star players.
This team had performed not so well in the last edition of the IPL. But this scenario might be changed as they brought in some new players to bolster their bowling and batting.
They have released big names like Harbhajan Singh, Kedar Yadav before; Shane Watson has retired too. But they traded in Robin Uthappa and bought Krishnappa Gowtham and Moeen Ali paying a lot of money. Let us see how their first eleven may look like.
CSK has plenty of options in the opening section. Ruturaj Gaikwad hit consecutive half-centuries in the last 3 matches of the last season. His current form in domestic cricket is outstanding and can reserve a spot for him in t he playing XI. Robin Uthappa is also an alternative option; he was not so impressive for Rajasthan Royals last year.
Faf du Plessis can start with any of the Indian batsmen. His records in the yellow jersey are impressive and also his experience and anchoring role is important for the team. Moeen Ali can also be sent to open the innings if required.
CSK have an experienced Indian core in the middle order. This year Suresh Raina is returning to the squad. But as he is not playing any competitive cricket for so long it is in doubt how his form is and how many matches he will get to play.
Ambati Rayudu is another important player in the CSK batting lineup and will be seen regularly in Playing XI. The skipper Dhoni will also be in command to put a big score on board. He was not seen to bat that much last season but this season he may bat more.
Ravindra Jadeja is returning from injury and practicing hard to be fit for the IPL. He has always been a key player for this side and this time also CSK will be looking at him to deliver in time.
Sam Curran is another sensation for the CSK team. He has performed well in the last IPL and also in the ODI series against India this year. Fans are hoping that his all-round ability will help CSK to win matches in this edition of IPL.
CSK has bought Krishnappa Gowtham for more than 9 crores but as the team will play more games in pace-friendly tracks it seems that Gowtham will not be in the XI if Moeen plays.
As Hazlewood opted out from IPL 2021 CSK bowling attack is affected a little for sure. Now they have only Lungi Ngidi as a genuine pace bowler. Shardul and Deepak Chahar are also good T20 bowlers and one well for the team previously. But the recent form of Deepak Chahar may be a concern for the team.
Imran Tahir is also in the squad but his chance to play in the XI is still in doubt this year.
