The first IPL champions Rajasthan Royals have always been amongst the strongest side in the League. They had an amazing season last year, they were very close to qualify into the playoffs but couldn’t. They will be facing the Punjab Kings in their first game in this edition of the Indian Premier League.
This year at the auction the Royals went huge, they brought some big and expensive players into their side. Chris Morris created history in the IPL auction by being the most expensive player ever, he was bought for 16.25 cr by RR. This year Sanju Samson will captain the Royals. With the new captain, there will be a lot that can change for Rajasthan Royals.
Rajasthan Royals Openers:
The Royals have always been pretty experimental with the opening pair. In the previous season, Steve Smith was the constant opener, alongside him Yashasvi Jaiswal, Jos Buttler, and Robin Uthappa opened the Innings.
But this year both the Aussie player Smith and Robin Uthappa have been released from the team, hence the team would be looking for an ideal opening pair for the whole season.
The team has a great balance of experience and young talent on their side. Players like Rahul Tewatia, Riyan Parag, David Miller, and Ben Stokes can provide great depth into the batting lineup.
Last year Rahul Tewatia played a sensational inning wherein he hit 5 sixes in a row and created history in IPL. Rajasthan Royals found a match-winner who could finish the games for the team.
This season the team has brought South African all-rounder Chris Morris into the side, he has a very crucial role to play in the lower order. Everyone will have an eye on his performance as he is the most expensive player this season. Shivam Dube has also joined the side, he had a good season last year at the RCB camp, hopefully, this year we get to see more of him.
In the previous season, English all-rounder Ben Stokes and Jofra Archer played exceptionally well. They both finished many games for their team, hopefully, this season too we will get to see some explosion from their side.
Rajasthan Royals Bowlers:
The team has a variety bunch of bowlers who can turn around the game. Young Indian uncapped bowlers such as Shreyas Gopal, Kartik Tyagi, and Mayank Markande were pretty impressive in the previous seasons. hoping to see more out of these young lads this year.
Jofra Archer, Chris morris, and Mustafizur Rahman will provide experience into the bowling attack which will create a good balance between experienced and young players.
Here is what the playing XI for the first game can look like – Jos Buttler(wk), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sanju Samson(c), David Miller, Riyan Parag, Rahul Tewatia, Chris Morris, Jofra Archer, Shreyas Gopal, Jaydev Unadkat, Kartik Tyagi.
The team have reached Mumbai and are in secured bio-bubble and they have also started training. Rajasthan Royals will be facing the Punjab Kings on the 12 April at the Wankhede Stadium.
