The table-toppers Chennai Super Kings(CSK) beat one of their oldest rivals in the IPL Royal Challengers Bangalore(RCB) by 69 runs in a high-scoring chase. Both the teams showed their A-game, but the ones who played slightly better were on the winning side.

The Men in Yellow are all smiles. They have ended RCB‘s four-match winning streak and picked up their own 4-match streak. The Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja was all over the field, we can literally say it was Jadeja vs RCB. His all-round individual brilliance took his team across the line.

Mahi & Co. won a very crucial toss and elected to bat first, both the teams had a couple of changes in their side. The first-day match at Wankhede and not a traditional pitch to bat on. CSK spinners made a difference in the second innings.

Chennai Super Kings Innings:

The openers set it up once again with Ruturaj Gaikwad and Faf du Plessis producing a partnership of 74(55). The Super Kings lost the momentum in the middle where RCB bowlers struck some crucial wickets.

After losing their middle order, MS Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja came onto bat. The RCB bowling unit has been exceptional this season with the bowling in the death. They did repeat the same performance till the 19th over of the Innings but then came an unreal experience for many.

Jadeja faced the purple cap holder Harshal Patel in the final over and he was hitting the ball all-around the stadium. Jadeja started with two sixes, a no-ball went for six and Harshal just kept gift-wrapping deliveries that were smacked around the park. It became the joint-worst over ever in IPL history and it’s certainly pushed CSK into pole position at the halfway mark. After the final over CSK posted a target of 192 runs for RCB.

Royal Challengers Bangalore’s Innings:

The Kohli & Co. were aiming to achieve the total and were wanting to stay at the top by winning their fifth consecutive match this season. Skipper Kohli and Devdutt Padikkal opened the innings and got the team going for the first few overs. Padikkal was playing with a strike-rate of more than 200.

English all-rounder Sam Curran got the first breakthrough as he got captain Kohli out in the 4th over. RCB then started losing wickets at regular intervals and couldn’t make a come back into the game.

Maxwell, the in-form player for RCB was off with a couple of boundaries but Jadeja was too hot to handle for him. The left-arm spinner got to turn on this spin-friendly pitch and knocked the leg stump out. AB was completely bamboozled by Jadeja’s spin to put CSK right on top

The CSK spinners yet again proved to be the game changers of the match, Jadeja and Imran Tahir (who played his first game today this season), both took 5 wickets and the RCB batting line-up just collapsed. After losing 9 wickets the RCB boys managed to play till the 20th over.

Superman Jadeja made a difference and played a match-winning knock of 62*(28) and smashed 37 runs off the last over, the highest in the history of IPL. Apart from batting beautifully, Sir Jadeja spun the ball and took some important and big wickets in the spell of 4 overs he took 3 wickets and conceded just 13 runs. And how can anybody forget that super throw which got Dan Christian run-out? Jadeja fired a bullet throw too to round off his contributions in all aspects of the game.

His all-round ability was awarded the player of the match. Here is what he had to say at the post-match presentation-

“Enjoyed a lot, when you contribute for your team in a winning match, it means a lot. I have been working a lot on my fitness, skill and everything else, luckily, it paid off today.

After losing the first match and then winning 4 games in a row, who else other than the skipper MS Dhoni could be happier. Here is what the winning captain had to say at the post-match presentation-

“We felt batting first was a good option. We were not doing anything drastically different from last year and I feel that’s what is important whether you win or lose. You keep hearing me or Fleming saying the same thing that we focus on the process and not on the result. Credit to the players for how they have performed.”

CSK will now move to the capital to play SRH on 28th April and RCB will move to Ahmedabad to play DC on the 27th of April.
