Three days, three thrillers in the Indian Premier League. Yet another astonishing victory by the Royal Challengers Bangalore(RCB), they beat the Sunrisers Hyderabad(SRH) by 6 runs in the last-ball finish at the Chepauk Stadium.
The IPL is going just bizarre this year, each and every game is just over the top. It seems that one over can change the game completely. SRH were there in the game till the 16th over it seemed as if it’s a cinch for them, but RCB came back and took the game away from the Hyderabad boys.
SRH won the toss and decided to bowl first. RCB had one change in there side, Devdutt Padikkal made his comeback into the team in place of Rajat Patidar, whereas the Sunrisers had two changes in their side Jason Holder and Shahbaz Nadeem replaced Mohammad Nabi and Sandeep Sharma.
Royal Challengers Bangalore’s Innings:
After recovering back from covid, and having a fabulous debut year last year for RCB, Devdutt Padikkal opened the innings with skipper Virat Kohli. RCB lost early wickets in the powerplay. But Kohli stood strong from end to take his team to a decent total.
One of the most expensive buys of IPL-14, Glenn Maxwell came on to bat with the skipper. He played a very important role in the last match against the Mumbai Indians. Even in this game against SRH after losing quick wickets Maxwell and Kohli geared up and built-up a partnership of 43 runs off 36 balls.
This partnership was very crucial in the middle overs as it changed the momentum of the game towards RCB. Skipper Kohli got to Jason Holder on 33(29), AB devillers too got out early . But Maxwell stood tall till the last ball and played an innings of 59 runs in 41 balls, this took the team to a fighting total of 149 runs in 20 overs.
Sunrisers Hyderabad’s Innings:
Wriddhiman Saha and David Warner opened the innings for SRH, Saha got out early to Mohammad Siraj in the 2nd over itself. Skipper Warner and Manish Pandey most reliable player for SRH continued the game with a great pace.
Warner and Pandey had a partnership of 83 runs from the powerplay to the middle overs. David Warner made his 49th half century in IPL, he got to Jamison at 54(37). Manish Pandey tried hard to stay at one end but couldn’t last long.
The 17th over of the game was the turning point in the match, Shahbaz Ahmed bowled an exceptional over where he took 3 wickets and gave just 1 run. The match was now in favour of RCB, last match hero Harshal Patel bowled the final over of the match and took 2 wickets and became the leading wicket taker of the tournament with 7 wickets.
SRH vs RCB Notable Performances:
RCB invested a huge amount on the Aussie all-rounder Glenn Maxwell even after having a disastrous season last year. But this year with a new jersey his roles and responsibilities have changed completely and he is justifying them too.
Maxwell played a mesmerizing knock last night, being the senior player in the team he took the responsibility of standing out there and scoring runs for his team. The pitch was not that batting friendly still he managed to score 59 runs off 41 deliveries. Here is what he had to say after a sensational performance at the post match presentation-
“It’s a very nice start, new franchise for me and they have given me a specific role. To start like this is really nice. It’s nice to have batters behind you, you have freedom with AB to come and it’s a very similar role I have in the Australian cricket team. The support staff have been backing me as well. It’s just about using the experience. Get myself in and then go for the runs. Probably having those guys behind me is a luxury at RCB.”
A top win for RCB and they go atop the points table, eying for their maiden IPL title. Here is what the winning captain yet again Virat Kohli had to say at the post match presentation-
“It was a top game for us, the wicket is going to get challenging, we saw that yesterday. You are never really out of the game in these conditions. We have more bowling options and those extra bowling options made those impact performances in the middle overs. To be very honest, we are not over excited with wins this season. We have clarity of plans. We are taking one game at a time, we are enjoying playing with each other. Need to be professional and do the job on the field.”
RCB will next play KKR on the 18th April and SRH will play MI on the 17th in Chennai.
