The Indian Premier League(IPL 2021) was suspended mid-way earlier this year, due to a spike in covid-19 cases. The remainder will be completed in September in the United Arab Emirates(UAE). Now ahead of the 2022 season, the board is planning to add two teams to the fold and this will further beef up the coffers of the BCCI.
The IPL, ever since its inception, has grown from strength to strength, and with this brand, the Board of Control for Cricket(BCCI) in India has laid a benchmark following which a number of franchise-based leagues have propped up all over the globe.
BCCI is planning to complete the sale of the said two teams in July itself. However, it will be surprising to know the valuation of the two teams and the cost at which they are set to be bought and auctioned.
Valuation of New teams in IPL 2022:
The BCCI is busy planning to induct the two new teams before the second phase of the 14th edition, the IPL is set to become a 10-team tournament much before the 2022 season starts.
Amongst the current teams, Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Kolkata Knight Riders are the four most expensive teams. While MI values around INR 2700-2800 crores, CSK’s valuation according to the company’s share value is around INR 2200-2300 crore.
As far as the new franchise is concerned, the base price for the same would be USD 250 million (Rs 1850 crore) while the final cost after the bidding is done could be in the range of USD 300-400 million (Rs 2200 crore to Rs 2900 crore).
Reports suggest that the auction for these teams could take place in July this year. Ahmedabad is one of the favourites to get a team as there are a number of factors working in its favour. The newly-made Narendra Modi Stadium has already hosted a number of international games and it has made for a spectacular setting.
Also, Gujarat Lions have already set up their base in Ahmedabad earlier. Apart from this, Lucknow could also be included in the fold as the city to has a brilliant stadium and the facilities are top-notch.
The 2022 season will also be preceded by a mega-auction which was delayed by one year as it was supposed to take place in 2021 but was postponed due to the lack of time between the two seasons of the IPL. The 2021 season of the IPL is set to resume on September 19 in the UAE, with the final slated for October 15.
