This season the IPL has been all about the bowlers, yet another sheer dominance of bowlers. The Rajasthan Royals(RR) beat the Delhi Capitals(DC) by 3 wickets in a highly thrilling encounter. A string of low-scoring games continues this season as the Royals chase down a total of 148.

The clash of two newest captains of the Indian Premier League Rishabh Pant and Sanju Samson went in favour of the RR skipper Samson, who marginally lost his first game. While on the other hand, DC captain Pant won his first game against his mentor MS Dhoni. Both the teams were looking to get these two points to their side.

The Royals won the toss and as usual, they elected to bowl, as at Wankhede(Mumbai) chase becomes slightly easier as the dew comes in. Both the teams had two changes on their side. In DC Kagiso Rabada and Lalit Yadav came into the side, while in RR David Miller and Jaydev Unadkat made their place into the team.

Delhi Capitals Innings:

Prithvi Shaw and Shikhar Dhawan opened the innings for DC. The capitals didn’t get quite a good start as they lost 3 big wickets in the powerplay for just 36 runs. Unadkat’s spell in the powerplay was very impressed he took the wickets of Shaw, Dhawan, and Ajinkya Rahane.

DC captain Pant stuck at one end and played an incredible inning for his team of 51(32) which took them to a fighting total. Unfortunately in the 13th over of the game, he got run-out by Riyan Parag. Pant led his team from the front by scoring a half-century.

The Capitals kept losing their wickets at regular intervals throughout the game, which was the reason that they were restricted to a small total. Small cameos by Tom Curran and Chris Woakes helped the team to reach a total of 147-8.

Rajasthan Royals Innings:

The Royals opened the innings with Manan Vohra and Jos Buttler. Same as the capitals RR had a poor start in the powerplay, they lost 3 wickets for just 26 runs. South African pacer Kagiso Rabada, who was playing his first game for DC today struck a wicket in his first spell.

RR too lost their wickets at regular intervals, David Miller stood strong from the end and contributed to the chase. His innings in the middle overs somewhere took away the game from the Delhi Capitals. He scored 62 runs off just 43 balls, Avesh Khan took his wicket in the 16th over.

In the final four overs, the game became more tensed and interesting as it could have gone either way. The most expensive IPL buy Chris Morris showed his worth by finishing the game for his team. Morris and Unadkat finished the game for RR in the final over with 2 balls remaining.

DC vs RR Notable Performances:

Jaydev Unadkat who played his first game of this season replacing Shreyas Gopal in the side proved to be a correct pick for the day. He contributed with both ball and bat. His spell of 4 overs where he took 3 big wickets by just conceiving 15 runs with an economy of 3.75 was the turning point of the game. In the last, he scored 11 runs to contribute to the win.

Unadkat was awarded by the man of the match, here is what he said after receiving the award-

“Have a lot of experience now I can say of handling tough situations. Was kind of a homecoming for me. Was bowling with the kind of freedom I wanted with the new ball.”

After playing a sensational captain’s innings and losing the previous game marginally, here is what the winning skipper Sanju Samson had to say at the post-match presentation-

“Had some hopes with Miller and Morris to come but to be really honest I thought that it was tough from there and I think the boys did really well to get over the line. It’s about reading the conditions. Can’t do much, was just praying inside. Always sit back and review my game.”

DC will next play PBKS on the 18th of April and RR will play CSK on the 19th of April at Mumbai.
