The Delhi Capitals(DC) easily chased down a magnanimous target of 196 runs comfortably with 10 balls to spare and defeated the Punjab Kings(PBKS) by 6 wickets. It was a double-header Sunday and a high-scoring as well, both the games were a run-fest.

After a couple of matches where the seamers had quite a say, Wankhede went back to being a belter today. Some sublime performances with the bat, with Shikhar Dhawan, comfortably being the pick of them all, great IPL last year, and now has started with a couple of superb knocks this season as well.

The Delhi skipper who has been great with the toss won it again and elected to bowl first. Aussie batsmen Steve Smith made his debut for the Capitals while a newcomer Jalaj Sharma joins the Punjab Kings XI.

Punjab Kings Innings:

Skipper KL Rahul who celebrated his 29th birthday, opened the innings with his Karnataka teammate Mayank Agrawal. They both gave an incredible start to the PBKS and took the opening partnership to 124 runs in just 74 deliveries. They both were timing the ball with ease.

After they both got out, PBKS lost a couple of more wickets. Chris Gayle didn’t stay long and Nicholas Pooran’s barren run just got extended. Deepak Hooda and Shahrukh Khan took the team to a fighting total of 195 runs in 20 overs. It seemed that PBKS will easily be winning this one but there was still a twist left in the game.

Delhi Capitals Innings:

The Capitals set openers Prithvi Shaw and Shikhar Dhawan gave a perfect start in the powerplay to their team. They both were hitting some crackling hits in the first 6 overs. Both Shaw and Dhawan made a partnership of 59 runs in 26 deliveries.

Shikhar Dhawan played a sublime match-winning knock, he alone took the game away from the Punjab Kings. He just missed out of his century by 8 runs, his innings made the game easier for the Capitals and they chased the total is with 10 balls remaining.

DC vs PBKS Notable Performances:

Shikhar Dhawan scored 92 runs off just 49 deliveries and awarded the player of the match. Here is what he had to say at the post-match presentation-

“It was a conscious effort from my side. I knew I have to improve on that (strike rate). Started taking more risks. Not afraid of changes, always open towards it. Not scared of getting out as well. Have worked on a few shots. My slog shot has improved a lot.”

After winning two games as captain, Rishabh Pant is a happy man, this what he said at the post-match presentation-

“Coming from a loss, winning the next match was important. Have already started enjoying captaincy. But we were under pressure at the start, the wicket was not doing much. Bowlers did a good job keeping them to 190. He (Dhawan) has a lot of experience.”

DC will next play MI on the 20th of April and PBKS will play SRH on the 21st of April at the Chepauk Stadium, Chennai.
