The BCCI has confirmed that the 15th season of the IPL will be held in India. According to some reports, the tournament will kick start on the 27th of March.

Jay Shah in a statement said,

I am delighted to confirm that the 15th season of the IPL will start in the last week of March and will run until May end. A majority of the team owners expressed their wish that the tournament be held in India.

Shah also agreed to the wish of the owners and said that he’ll do everything in his power to keep the IPL in India.

The BCCI was always keen on staging the 2022 edition that will see two new teams- Ahmedabad and Lucknow- in India. I can tell you that we will leave no stone unturned in ensuring that IPL stays in India.

However, the BCCI also has a plan B in place. They have kept UAE and South Africa as backup venues in case the Covid situation in India takes a turn for the worse.

The BCCI has not compromised on the health and safety of its stakeholders in the past and will concurrently work on plan B since the COVID-19 situation with new variants remains fluid.

The Mega Auction will take place in Bengaluru on the 12th and 13th of February. The BCCI will announce the venues before that.

The IPL Player Registrations closed on the 20th of January 2022. This year, 1,214 players have signed themselves up to be a part of the Mega Auction. It has 896 Indian and 318 foreign players.

The list also features 270 capped, 903 uncapped, and 41 associate players.

33 players have been retained for this year’s IPL. The existing 8 franchises have retained 27 players while the new franchises have snapped up 6 players before the auction.
