Mick Schumacher might be going the Mercedes way as the future of the German remains uncertain.
Mick Schumacher is yet to get a contract extension with his team Haas for 2023. The future of the German still looks uncertain with Nico Hulkenberg being rumored to get the Haas seat.
Now, a German magazine claims that Mercedes will be the first choice for Mick Schumacher in case he loses his Haas seat for 2023. Reports indicate that Schumacher will be going for the reserve driver role with the Silver Arrows.
Mercedes will have a vacant reserve driver seat once Nyck de Vries joins AlphaTauri for the 2023 campaign.
This means that Daniel Ricciardo will have to look somewhere else as the Australian is also being linked with the Brackley-based squad alongside Red bull. Ricciardo is aiming to take a year off Formula 1 before planning a comeback in 2024.
Update on Haas 2023 seat
Meanwhile, Haas team boss Guenther Steiner has also provided some updates on the 2023 Haas seat dilemma. The team boss makes clear that the team is trying to announce the complete lineup before the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix – the final race of the 2022 season.
“I think we can wrap it up pretty quickly,”
said Steiner ahead of the Brazilian GP on Thursday.
“Hopefully next week we can announce something, whatever we’re doing.
“Hopefully, that’s my objective, but I don’t promise it. I hope before [Abu Dhabi]. When I say, ‘I hope,’ it’s not a fact.
“No [a decision hasn’t been made]. It’s imminent. I’m pretty busy at the moment… I’m a slow thinker! We wanted to make sure that we take the right decision.
“There are no seats out there anymore; why would we be in a hurry to announce it? We need to do it before the Bahrain test next year basically, because we want to have the driver which drives next year in the car in the Bahrain test.
“That’s the only thing we want to do, and the rest we want to try to make the best decision we can, and sometimes time helps to make your decisions.”
Haas looks like the only empty seat at the moment with Williams all set to give their seat to Logan Sargeant in 2023.
