A new summer transfer window is about to heat up, with its main event at Newcastle United’s star striker Alexander Isak. Still seeking a top level center forward, Arsenal are set to target the Swedish armored platoon. Isak, with a big £83.3m price tag and a word on the exit clause, could serve as the answer to Arsenal’s striker headaches once again, but his is another big money “what if.” in Premier League history.
Isak: The Forward Arsenal Always Wanted (But Never Called)
Imagine Arsenal on their knees for goals, Kai Havertz tearing his hamstring, Mikel Arteta going through some mental Rolodex of strikers to stop outside of Alexander Isak. Gunners pulled the blueprint for their ideal forward last summer. Around Isak, height, ability, poise from range, class under pressure, all filled the bill perfectly.
But did they call? Nope.
Isak has had his say after proving Arsenal wrong, banging in 19 goals so far in 29 appearances this season. Almost as if Arteta has been getting subliminal messages from him: ‘See what you missed?’
£83.3m: Bargain or Daylight Robbery?
And, thanks to a reported verbal agreement, Newcastle are now content to allow Isak to go for just £83.3m if someone is willing to cough up. Sounds steep? Alan Shearer doesn’t think so. In fact, he would want even £150m wouldn’t quite pay for Isak. However, in today’s market where the talent half can go for double the amount (£83.3m) we’re looking at the likes of Chelsea.
But Arsenal are not the only ones circling. They want him, but their bank account’s still on a financial detox. Liverpool also have an opportunity, if they win the Premier League and subsequently decide to treat themselves.
Why Isak Is Perfect for Arsenal (and Why It Might Still Go Wrong)
Arsenal have a habit of failing to sign players who come back to haunt them and let’s be honest, let’s say Arsenal perhaps had those players in their history. Remember Cristiano Ronaldo? Yeah, that still stings. But Isak feels different. Arsenal needs swagger, and he is young and dynamic.
He imagines them linking up with Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli. Premier League defenses will be made for pure chaos by that front three. Arsenal, however, know how to turn dream signings into memes when things go pear shaped, but…
