‘It’s really exciting’ – George Russell reacts to Hamilton’s plans to stay at Mercedes

Mercedes driver George Russell joined forces with Lewis Hamilton this season as the team struggled to put up the challenge.

George Russell became a star driver in Williams itself before joining the Silver Arrows. And the Briton has undoubtedly coped up well with the new team so far. Russell has shown brilliant consistency and has kept up with the challenge of being a 7-time world champion.

Russell’s was better than Lewis Hamilton’s in the first half of the season while it’s the other way around in the second half. Russell still leads his teammate in the championship standings.

Russell has spoken up about his experience with the team so far:

“It’s really exciting for me to have the opportunity to be his teammate, to go directly head-to-head with him and grow on this journey that we’re on together, because it really does feel like a journey that the two of us are on, along with the rest of the team, in trying to bring Mercedes back to winning ways,”

said Russell.

“So I think we’ve got a really, really great, transparent relationship and it would be great ot be teammates for a number of years to come.”

Hamilton recently shared his desire to continue driving for the Silver Arrows and to stay in F1.

Russell feels positive about Hamilton staying in Formula 1

George Russell had an amazing start to the season. However, the Briton faded away after the summer break. Lewis Hamilton on the other hand has picked up some pace after new upgrades came in Austin. The 7-time world champion has been challenging for wins in the last couple of races.

When asked about the potential contract extension of Lewis Hamilton, Russell replied:

“It’s really exciting to have that potential of Lewis staying on for a number of years to come,”

said the 24-year-old.

“I think he has proven that he’s definitely not lifted his foot off the throttle pedal, and he’s definitely in the last few races performing probably better than ever.”
