Chelsea appear to be advancing towards another young signing in this summer’s rejuvenation process, with Borussia Dortmund winger Jamie Bynoe-Gittens, one of the players now firmly on the club’s radar. The Blues are keen on one of England’s most promising wide man and are said to be pushing ahead with a deal behind closed doors.
Chelsea’s Pursuit of Jamie Bynoe-Gittens
The London club have been tracking Jamie Bynoe-Gittens for months, with scouts blown away by his dynamic style, boundless flair and confidence in beating a defender in one-on-one situations. A graduate of Manchester City’s academy, Bynoe-Gittens moved to Borussia Dortmund in 2020 and has become a first-team regular in the Bundesliga.
The English winger is still only 19 but has already made more than 40 senior appearances for Dortmund, and his performances have seen him likened to former Dortmund success story—Jadon Sancho. Though his scoring numbers are relatively low, his pure talent and sudden burst of speed are evident, especially in key games.
Chelsea’s interest in Bynoe-Gittens is indicative of a wider approach under Enzo Maresca. The new head coach plans to focus on youth and technical ability, and views the winger as a strong tactical fit. Bynoe-Gittens is at his best in wide systems, and the jinking turn of pace in his game could give Chelsea a different option to more stationary wing players such as Noni Madueke or Mykhailo Mudryk.
Dortmund do not plan to sell Bynoe-Gittens, but they could consider an offer between £35–40 million, especially since the player enters a pivotal phase of development. Bynoe-Gittens is contracted until 2026, but Chelsea appear to be confident of a deal – especially if they can structure an arrangement with add-ons.
Negotiation Landscape and Market Buzz
The pursuit of Jamie Bynoe-Gittens hasn’t gone unnoticed. The player, who could be available for around £16m, has been the subject of interest from a number of clubs around Europe including Arsenal, Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich. But Chelsea reportedly lead the race thanks to their exorbitant offer and clearly defined long-term project.
Chelsea’s scouts, led by Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart, have identified the need to add more width and depth to the frontline. With question marks lingering over the futures of Raheem Sterling and Callum Hudson-Odoi, a signing like Bynoe-Gittens would future-proof the flanks for seasons to come.
The Blues’ negotiations with Dortmund have been positive so far but remain at an impasse over a fee. Dortmund regard Bynoe-Gittens as a high-upside project and are reluctant to lose him without a massive offer on the table.
Financially, Chelsea are still safely within their FFP restraints, but are looking to balance the books through certain sales — Armando Broja and Trevoh Chalobah. That could open the space for Bynoe-Gittens to come in before pre-season starts.
Chelsea feel the signing of the winger would give Maresca and his staff time to work with him closely, while the head coach’s system relies on fluid attacking patterns as well as positional flexibility. It is said that there is a lot of internal optimism.
Author’s Opinion
Jamie Bynoe-Gittens is a classic Chelsea-style signing under this new regime — young, explosive, high potential and very raw. He is the perfect long-term profile for the club but there are doubts about whether he is ready to contribute at premier league level straight away.
At a cost of £40 million, this is no minor investment. But, if delicately managed under Maresca, Bynoe-Gittens could turn into a game-changer. He has potential and Chelsea should strike now before other clubs heap on the pressure.
Nevertheless, fans must temper their expectations. This is not a star already shining but a bet on one yet to take the firmament — and one Chelsea will have to nurture if they want this to be more Sancho than Hudson-Odoi.
