Jamie Carragher ‘defends’ Erik Ten Hag after Manchester United sacking

In a twisting turn of events, Jamie Carragher has come to support Erik Ten Hag. He believes that the Dutchman was right to punish Cristiano Ronaldo and Jadon Sancho. The Dutchman had an eventful managerial career with Manchester United to say the least. He did lead them to 2 major trophies. But, it was all downhill from then. Ronaldo would go on to speak against the club in an interview with Piers Morgan. As a result, the club and the player would decide to mutually terminate contract. Ronaldo even ended up parting ways with his agent Jorge Mendes after the same. On the other hand, Sancho thinks that the manager made him a ‘scapegoat‘. As a result, he would have to apologize or not play. He chose to do the latter.

Jamie Carragher aids Erik Ten Hag

Man Utd recently announced the sacking of the Dutchman. As per wikipedia, he only managed to win 70 out of 128 games with the club. Now, Ruben Amorim will be taking charge of the Red Devils very soon. In a recent interview with skysports, Jamie Carragher would back Erik Ten Hag on the treatment of Cristiano Ronaldo and Jadon Sancho.

Was the Dutchman right?

We do think he was right in some aspects. As a player, you cannot directly go against your club and start saying awful things about it in public. At the same time, your manager does have the right to assess your performance. So you should be able to handle the criticism too. Jamie Carragher may actually be right to back Erik Ten Hag here. But, to some point, even we think that the Dutchman was a little too vocal off the field rather than with his tactics on the field. He had the board backing him. At the same time, he got good player with him too. But things did not work out for him.
