While the team management and BCCI are monitoring Rohit Sharma, India need to keep in mind a captaincy option open as well.
If Rohit somehow does not play for India in the decider 5th Test, then Bumrah should lead the team.
This is because he is one of the most experienced bowlers in the side and has done well in all three formats.
Bumrah has also got the respect of all his teammates in the Indian team.
Additionally, he is street-smart and tactile when he is bowling and has delivered the goods as well.
Bumrah has the capability to outsmart batsmen as well.
The top reason why Bumrah should be given the captaincy is that Kohli cannot be made captain again.
This would be a step of regression for India and they would not like to hand back Kohli the captaincy.
Kohli had a rather dramatic exit from captaincy in all three formats.
But, no doubt he has been a successful captain for India in Tests leading them to glory and the No.1 position in the Test charts as well.
Although Rohit Sharma’s quarantine will end just before the start of the Edgbaston Test, India would not like to play him straight away.
