Jesse Lingard has no clubs wanting to sign him this summer. A major reason for this is his exorbitant wage demands.
Newcastle United were pursuing the Englishman’s signature in January. However, this interest was short lived. Manchester United priced him out of a move to St Jame’s Park last season
Lingard is out of contract this summer. This means, Manchester United cant interfere this summer. However this time, it’s Lingard who is pricing himself out this summer.
Jesse Lingard transfer news
Newcastle refused to sign him earlier because his wage demands were exorbitant. He wanted a wage of around £200,000 to wear Newcastle United’s stripes.
This was not feasible for the club as it would disturb their wage structure. To put it into perspective, Lingard’s salary demand per week was £200,000. This amounts to more than £10million-a-year. £10million is what Newcastle are paying to Burnley for Nick Pope.
This wage structure would have made him the best paid player in the club. And with his current form, the wage structure is much more than what he is worth. Moreover, a contract like that would have created a gap between hum and the rest of the squad. The Englishman also has no resale value seeing as he is 30 years old.
Eddie Howe’s public appreciation of Lingard.
In the January window, Howe publicly expressed his appreciation for the player “Jesse Lingard is a player I have always admired”, Howe said, “And that’s probably the best thing to say.”
Howe is a fan of Lingard. However is that enough reason for the Magpies to make a fresh offer? Probably not.
West Ham could be prepared to get close to the number. Lingard had a terrific season for the Hammers in the 2019/2020 season.
