Arsenal is set to continue their pursuit of Espanyol’s goalie Joan Garcia. The Gunners have been interested in the Spanish since last summer.
WHY JOAN GARCIA?
At first, when Arsenal submitted a €20 million bid, Espanyol rejected it. Although recent developments suggest that Espanyol’s stance may have softened. The sporting director stated that the club would be open to discussions if a bid approaches the release clause. This implies that a substantial offer from Arsenal could facilitate the transfer.
So, Garcia has been instrumental for the Spanish club, especially after securing the starting position in March 2024. His performances have been pivotal for the club’s promotion back to La Liga. Also, he showcased his talent further by winning the gold medal for Spain’s Olympic winning squad.
Arsenal now wants to improve their strategy to strengthen the goalie department. The club secured Neto on a season-long loan from Bournemouth after missing out on Garcia last summer.
But there are questions arising about the long-term future of David Raya, their current goalie. So, they have to be ready to make him sustainable for the later fixtures.
It can be said that Garcia’s release clause is set to be at €25 million. During the final days, it rose to €30 million. This suggests that Arsenal will benefit from securing him at a more favorable fee.
AUTHOR’S OPINION
Overall, Arsenal wants to sign the Spaniard to bolster their young-blood team. With these youngsters, Arteta can build a new squad. Also, the negotiations are opened, and with Garcia’s impressive track record, this transfer could benefit the Gunners.
