North Macedonia has knocked out Italy in a 1-0 win where Alexander Trajkovski scored the winning goal in injury time. Macedonia’s victory is their greatest victory ever so far in this big stage. They are just one victory away from playing in the world cup.

Italy was one of the favorites for the World Cup. On the back of winning the Euros, Many had predicted the Italians to be a formidable force in the tournament. But Italy has failed to secure qualification for the second time. They last played a world cup game back in 2014.

In the qualification group, Italy only managed to win only 4 of their 8 games. This meant that they had to play in the knockout stages.

Jorginho had earlier missed a couple of penalties which could have decided the course of the drawn games. The midfielder was in tears and was reflecting on the loss.

“It hurts when I think about it, because I do still think about it and it will haunt me for the rest of my life.

Stepping up there twice and not being able to help your team and your country is something that I will carry with me forever, and it weighs on me. People say we need to lift our heads and carry on, but it’s tough”

“It is difficult to explain what happened. It hurts so much.We played good football, we won the European Championship last summer, but unfortunately in the last few games we made small errors and were unable to recover from them. They made the difference.”
