West Ham manager Julen Lopetegui has a big summer ahead of him. Everyone was shocked after West Ham decided to sack David Moyes after a decent season. This news surprised many football fans across the globe. However this news was expected by many football experts. David Moyes managed to win West Ham their first silverware in recent years. However he was often criticized by both fans and experts for his tactics. His style of play was considered ‘slow’ by many people according to Premier League standards. Lopetegui was annouced as David Moyes’s replacement by West Ham. Lopetegui has previous experience in managing big clubs as he was manager of Real Madrid. The manager also has experience with English football. Lopetegui managed Wolves where he pulled off a miracle to save the club from relegation. Although his tenure was short in Premier League it was great.
Lopetegui even after his miracle ended up leaving Wolves. The reason of his leaving according to reports was disputes with the management. Wolves ended up selling some of their big players like Ruben Neves, Adama Traore, Matheus Nunes, Conor Coady. The reason behind selling most of their players are the new Profit and Sustainability rules (PSR) of Premier League. According to these rules clubs are not allowed to spend their broadcasting and sponsorship money for transfers. Moreover new players can be signed only after the sales of current players. Lopetegui wanted to make some big signings for the club to compete seriously in the upcoming competition. However the club ended up signing cost ineffective players that did not fit the managers system. The new transfers also took their time to settle to English football which is another big struggle for every club. This was a big problem for the club.
West Ham and Julen Lopetegui kickoff transfer window
After all these struggles with Wolves, Julen Lopetegui finally ended up joining West Ham. His intention is clear with the club to compete for silverware. West Ham United have their own struggles in the squad. After the departure of their captain and key player Declan Rice there are massive shoes to fill. However many West Ham players stepped up after the departure of Rice. Mohammed Kudus is one of the player who is lighting up the Premier League. There are many positions that needs to be reinforced in the West Ham squad. However Lopetegui has prioritised signing a centre foward this summer transfer window. West Ham’s current striker Antonio had his moments with the club. The striker stepped up big time for the club in numerous ocassions and is still a fan favourite at London. However his poor goalscoring form really affected the club this season.
The biggest problem with Antonio is his consistency. West Ham are linked with Youssef En-Nesyri and Samu Omorodion. Both are great players and will be a massive addition to the club. Lopetegui highlights the importance of a striker in his system numerous times. En-Nesyri is great player with good work ethic, technical skills and eye for the goal. He will also be reuniting with his former Sevilla manager. According to Tuttomercatoweb, former Blackburn forward Ben Brereton Diaz is firmly on the Hammers’ radar this summer. Diaz scored 38 goals in his last 87 games for Blackburn. He also scored six goals in 14 matches for Sheffield United. However he had a poor run of games and a goal drought for about 20 games in Villareal. It upto Lopetegui to put his trust in the striker or look for a new alternative.
