Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp reveals that he had no idea about how good Jarell Quansah was. Liverpool academy graduate Quansah was given a chance by Klopp against Newcastle United earlier this season. The young centre-back gathered a lot of praise in a famous 2-1 comeback victory at St James Park. Speaking to the press ahead of Liverpool’s UEFA Europa League clash against Toulouse, the Anfield boss revealed that the 20-year-old’s impact in the first-team has caught him by surprise. The English youth international has been one of the best breakout talents so far this season. Moreover, he has featured heavily for the Merseyside club in Europa League as well as Premier League.
Indeed, many fans have started seeing him as a heir to the Dutch giant Virgil Van Dijk in future. Klopp also said for Quansah that,
“If you asked me in pre-season if he would be this good I would be surprised, but now I see him every day and I’m not surprised.
It’s really promising, he’s good on the ball, aggressive in the challenges, he has everything you need, really happy he’s here.”
Liverpool are no strangers to their players breaking into the first-team. Despite this, Quansah seems to have caught Klopp and the fans off guard. The defender has been one of the best performers at youth level over the past few years. He also impressed on a loan term with Bristol Rovers the previous season. Consequently, all this determination has seen him take the biggest leap of his career with an ease. The Reds are having a great talent in their hands that could be preserved and used in the future.
