Kanpur Test: Test cricket is still the ultimate

, Six Sports

The top two Test teams of the world were at loggerheads in Kanpur in their quest to world supremacy. New Zealand the new arch-rivals of Team India played with great spirit and proved to be tough challengers. To play India in India is probably the hardest hurdle for any foreign team in recent times. Be it the mighty Aussies or the English all have succumbed in their previous attempts to dominate the Indian Team. However, New Zealand showed their strength and character as the 1st Test ended in a draw.

Ind Vs Nz : Best Vs Best

India played without their captain and top batter Virat Kohli. KL Rahul who is in sublime form in the limited-overs format missed out on the series owing to an injury. The team is without the services of opener Rohit Sharma and premier fast bowlers Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami as well.

Shreyas Iyer who was included in India’s World T20 squad debuted in whites. His debut turned out to be a fairy tale. He became the first Indian batter to score a hundred and fifty in their debut match. He scored the runs when his team was in a precarious situation and thus has made a strong case for him as a permanent for India in Tests.

Mumbai: The City Of Dreams

The Green Park track had barely anything for the bowlers and batters. The pitch had an uneven bounce and slowed down every single day. The standard of umpiring too raised a lot of eyebrows and BCCI will surely scrutinize it.

The 2nd Test will see the return of captain Virat Kohli. He will surely attempt to gear his team to win the final match and series. The places of senior players like Pujara and Rahane are in a fix after their string of low scores in the past few series. New Zealand will definitely hope their captain Kane Williamson to be back in form and lead his men from the front.

The next match will happen in the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai where we can expect a pitch that will definitely excite the men with the bat.
