Karthik on SKY not converting his ODI opportunities

Suryakumar Yadav

Dinesh Karthik, the experienced Indian wicketkeeper-batsman, has expressed his support for Suryakumar Yadav, even though he has suffered two consecutive ducks against Australia in the first two ODIs. Australia has now leveled the ongoing three-match series at 1-1 with a convincing victory in Visakhapatnam. During the match, India suffered a batting collapse and only managed to score 117 runs. Mitchell Starc dismissed Suryakumar Yadav for a golden duck for the second time in the series. Despite this poor form, Karthik defended the flamboyant Indian batsman, saying that it can happen to anyone.

feel for him says Karthik

“Imagine Suryakumar Yadav, I feel for him, two first-balls, I’m sure a lot of people will be saying, ‘Oh, he’s not making use of his opportunities’. It’s not true. To get out first ball means you are out before you’re set. It can happen to anybody,”

Karthik told Cricbuzz.

“He (Mitchell Starc) is arguably the best white-ball bowler in the world right now. To come and receive such balls first up, it’s hard. You put anybody there, more often than not, they will get out first ball. We need to cut some slack for batters who get out to quality left-armers,”

he added.

Although the skilled right-handed player has performed exceedingly well in T20Is, he has been incapable of duplicating his performance in One-Day matches. In addition, he has a disappointing average of 25.47 with 433 runs and just two half-centuries in 22 ODIs, despite being born in Mumbai.

With the third and final ODI taking place in Chennai, the Indian cricket team will hope to move past their disappointing performance in Visakhapatnam. They are eager to improve their batting and bowling in order to win the series. The match is scheduled for Wednesday, March 22 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. The victorious team will have bragging rights leading up to the 2023 ODI World Cup.
