Kevin Magnussen feels Mick Schumacher can learn from his career

Kevin Magnussen believes how his career unfolded can help Mick Schumacher prepare for the upcoming adventures.

Haas driver Kevin Magnussen marked a “Viking” comeback by returning to the grid of Formula 1 in 2022. This season was also an improvement for the American outfit. The team earlier failed to score even a single point in 2021.

Magnussen bagged 25 points whereas his teammate secured 12 points too. However, the performance was not enough for Schumacher to save his seat in the team. Mick Schumacher and Haas ultimately parted ways paving the way for Nico Hulkenberg to return to the grid in 2023.

Although Schumacher had a considerably good season, Haas’s team was not impressed. Now, the 22-year-old has no drive for 2023 as he expects to spend his season on the sidelines.

Magnussen and his history of comebacks

Magnussen has also seen similar circumstances. The Danish driver lost his career two times in the sport. Regardless, Magnussen managed to make a comeback both times.

Magnussen made his debut in the sport relatively early back in 2014. Driving for McLaren alongside Jenson Button, Magnussen was axed after one season with the team only.

In 2016, Magnussen marked his return to the sport by joining the Renault team before switching to Haas a year later. The 30-year-old drove for Haas before again losing his seat due to the team’s financial problems in 2021. However, Magnussen again returned to Haas after the team denied Nikita Mazepin a seat due to the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict helping Magnussen make a “Viking” comeback.

When asked if Mick Schumacher can use his career as an example to stick around and make a comeback, Kevin Magnussen replied positively:

“I certainly know what it is like in his position right now but I also when I am patting him on the shoulder and saying stick at it, it also has some weight.”

“I have come back twice, I have shown that you can never say never and there really is a reason to hang in there.”

Magnussen further added when asked if he believes consistency to be the key to staying in the sport:

“Sure. I have nothing bad to say about Mick or his performances this year. It is what it is.”
