India’s tour of South Africa is currently underway, as the two teams fight for points in the WTC campaign. Recently, the ICC released the latest Test Rankings and here we cover the major updates on the list.

Agarwal-Rahane move up, Kohli-Pujara slip

The stand-in skipper for the 2nd Tets, KL Rahul made a huge leap to reach the 31st spot. The gain of 18 slots is just another proof of his stellar comeback in the red-ball format. In 1st Test at Centurion, he gave India the perfect start in the 1st innings and went on to score a phenomenal ton. In the 2nd Test, with regular captain Kohli out because of an injury, he lead his team from the front on the tough track of Johannesburg and hit a gritty fifty. Rahul undoubtedly is presently the best batter for India across all formats.

His Karnataka counterpart Mayank Agarwal too saw a rise by 1 spot for his stylish fifty at Centurion. He with Rahul stitched a record 117-run opening partnership that was key for India being the first Asian side to have ever won a Test at Centurion. Kohli slipped to the 9th position while Australian cricketer Marnus Labuschagne leads the chart.

Bumrah rises to 9th spot

Coming to the bowlers, Jasprit Bumrah remains the only Indian pacer in the top 10. He rose to the 9th spot moving up 3 places. Mohammed Shami the star with red cherry at Centurion was up by 2 places to 17th. Ashwin holds his place at No.2 following Australian captain Pat Cummins. Kagiso Rabada moved up 1 place to the 6th position. Lungi Ngidi who took a fifer at Centurion saw an elevation of 16 slots and is currently placed at 30th position.

The rankings of all-rounders did not see many changes as the Top 10 remained the same as the previous edition with Holder at the top followed by Ashwin and Jadeja respectively.
