A big blow for Punjab Kings (PBKS) has occurred. PBKS captain KL Rahul was diagnosed with acute appendicitis and has been transferred to a hospital.
The franchise said in a statement on Sunday. KL Rahul complained of severe abdomen pain on Saturday and after not responding to medications he was taken to the emergency room.
KL Rahul leads the Orange Cap race with 331 runs from seven matches. He has scored four half-centuries in this season. But he is likely to be out of action for the foreseeable future. Upon full recovery he’ll also have to serve a quarantine period if he returns to the Punjab Kings bio-bubble.

Rahul was off the field for a part of PBKS’ game against Royal Challengers Bangalore. Chris Gayle was leading the side in his absence. The franchise have officially named a stand-in captain Mayank Agarwal for the next matches.
Punjab Kings, sitting in the bottom half of the IPL 2021 points table. They have won three matches this season so far and lost four. They are fifth on the table behind Mumbai Indians.
