Kovacic exit looks eminent, as he is not willing a wage cut

Mateo Kovacic future at Chelsea looks unclear at this moment. The Croatian might leave the club next season.

According to Journalist Simon Phillips on Substack, Chelsea are yet to hold “formal contract talks” with the 28-year-old midfielder. As it stands, Kovacic’s contract expires in 2024 and therefore the Blues are concerned about his future. Phillip also suggests that Kovacic is not willing to take any kind of wage cut on a new deal. The Journalist considers the fact that Chelsea will listen to the offers for the Croatian in the summer.

Kovacic was bought in 2009 for a transfer fee of £40 million and has been one of the finest midfielders for the Blues in last few years. He is a perfect midfielder who can control the game with his technical attributes.

However, Philips also claimed that the Croatian might consider his future at Stanford Bridge and assess other options next season. Phillips further said:-

“I’ve been hearing and I’ve been reporting for months now that Kovačić has been considering his next move. With his contract running down, I don’t expect that to change.”

But if we think clearly, Kovacic can still play as an important player at the heart of Chelsea’s midfield. His technical abilities and game awareness can be seen on the pitch. The Croatian partnering with the latest signing, Enzo Fernandez in the coming weeks can work wonders for Chelsea. The Blues might need Kovacic for the future but the player might consider his future away from London.
