Kylian Mbappe has broken his teammate Lionel Messi’s record of being the youngest player to reach 30 goals in the Champions League. Paris Saint-Germain hosted Club Brugge for the last matchweek of the UCL. The hosts were in a 3-0 lead at half-time thanks to Mbappe brace in just 8 minutes and a sublime Leo Messi finish. The match ended with PSG winning the game 4-1, however, Mbappe took only one minute to grab the headlines.
Kylian Mbappe is now the youngest player to reach the 30 goal mark in the Champions League. At the age of just 22 years and 352 days, the Frenchman has previously broken and set many records. The previous holder of the record was his teammate Lionel Messi. Moreover, Messi was also on the scoresheet and even he has equaled a record with Cristiano Ronaldo. Messi is now level with Ronaldo to have scored against the most number of opponents and that is 38. Kylian Mbappe has now scored 31 goals in 51 Champions League appearances. While he has scored 11 goals and assisted 13 in 22 games in all competitions this season.
The Frenchman looks set to break and set more records in the future. He is doing wonders at the age of just 22. However, the only thing he is missing is a Champions League trophy. Mbappe was very close to winning the trophy in 2020 when PSG played the Champions League final against Bayern Munich.
What does the future hold for Kylian Mbappe in the Champions League?
At the age of just 22, Kylian Mbappe is a world cup winner and has managed to win every single trophy there is except the Champions League. PSG are very strong contenders to win the trophy. In fact, this could be their best shot at winning the UCL considering the summer signings they have made. Les Parisiens have qualified for the last 16 of UCL and have finished 2nd in their group table. The team will be motivated to take on their challenge and move forward in the tournament. Mbappe has already lost a final with PSG and would not want to suffer a defeat like that again.
However, the Frenchman is very much inclined in signing for Real Madrid. Although currently, PSG have better chances of winning the UCL, Mbappe is a great admirer of the Spanish giants. Nevertheless, he can also fight for it with Real Madrid next season as Los Blancos will also look forward to improving their squad. At the age of just 22, he is very much capable of breaking every goalscoring record in the Champions League and can soon be a legend if he keeps up this form.
Kylian Mbappe must be thrilled to have broken the record. However, he must not lose focus as the real competition is just getting started and he should be ready for the challenges. Lionel Messi will also be of big help to the Frenchman as the Argentinian talisman has massive experience of being in such kinds of situations. Kylian Mbappe also possesses the quality of a Champions League winner. However, he should be patient and should continue what he is doing as success will come wherever he goes in Europe. This match turned out to be a great confidence booster for PSG ahead of the knockout stages.
