Former India batting legend and now commentator Sunil Gavaskar will be honoured by the people of Leicester.

One of the cricket grounds in Leicester will now bear the name plaque of Gavaskar.

Gavaskar expressed his pleasure in being honoured so wonderfully by the people of the city.

He will now be present today at the venue where the name plaque will be unveiled to him.

The former India batter is perhaps one of the most loved batsmen in the game of cricket.

He has enthralled one and all with his displays of batting during his heydays.

Gavaskar is a World Cup winner and has played 125 Tests and 108 ODIs for India.

In both the formats combined, he has amassed 13,214 runs which include 35 tons and 72 fifties.

Gavaskar will become the first-ever Indian cricketer to have a ground named after him in England.

Leicester MP Keith Vaz said that they want to honour Gavaskar and added that he is happy to know that the legend has so gratefully accepted the honour.

In addition to this, a portrait of Gavaskar has also been painted on one of the pavilion walls and is owned by Bharat Sports and Cricket Club.
