Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski has played down a move to the Premier League. He has insisted that he sees no need to “prove himself” in another country.

Lewandowski makes this statement as he collects his European Golden Shoe award for the 2020/21 season. Following a prolific season once more, he scored a record-breaking 41 goals in 29 Bundesliga matches.

The forward has stressed his commitment to the Bavarians. He does so amid reports suggesting he wants a move away. Manchester City and Real Madrid have been possible destinations for the 33-year-old.

Lewandowski does not want the Premier League

The Poland international shattered Gerd Muller’s record for the most goals scored in a single German top-flight campaign.

This is the first European Golden Shoe of the striker’s illustrious career, finishing 11 goals ahead of Lionel Messi.

The 33-year-old has led the line for Bayern since 2014. He moved to the Allianz Arena on a free transfer. This move would go on to end his wait for a European crown in the 2019/20 campaign, also winning the Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal to complete the treble.

Lewandowski further shot down claims he could leave the Bavarians by insisting he will continue scoring for many seasons to come.

Speaking to the media, Lewandowski says: “I don’t have to prove myself in another league.

I can compete with the best from other leagues in the Champions League. I am 100 per cent focused on Bayern Munich, I don’t think about anything else but my team. I am still here – and I will be here for a long time!

He went on to say that for him, age was just a number. The Polish forward is in good shape, has the best stats and can play at the top level for years. He quotes,

“I’m like a good wine and I hope to get even better.”

Lewandowski boasts 11 goals from 7 appearances in all this campaign. He registers an overall tally of 305 goals from 336 games in a Bayern shirt.
