Lewis Hamilton and George Russell were caught discussing about Charles Leclerc’s crash during the cooldown room at French GP.

After the French GP, both Lewis Hamilton and George Russell were in the cooldown room as the Mercedes duo scored a double podium for the team.

Both British Drivers were found discussing about Leclerc’s massive shunt as the replay was played on the screen. Hamilton said:

“He just made a mistake, huh?”

“No. Throttle blockage,”

A baffled Russell asked:

“Throttle blockage!?”

“Yes. That’s what he said on the radio,”

answered the Red Bull representative explaining to Lewis Hamilton and George Russell.

Leclerc’s unforced error

Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc had a spin on turn 11 after a cruel snap of oversteer. This ended his scarlet Ferrari into the barriers ending his race on lap 18.

At first, it seemed it was a throttle problem as Charles was found calling on the radio:

“I cannot go off throttle,”

before letting out a big scream as he lost his car.

However, it became clear afterward that the crash was not caused by any mechanical problems. Leclerc took the complete blame for the crash:

“A mistake, a mistake. I’ve been saying I think I’m performing at my highest level in my career but if I keep doing those mistakes then it’s pointless to perform at a very high level.”

“It’s unacceptable, I just need to get on top of those things,”

explained Leclerc.

The Monegasque radio message puzzled fans and viewers just like Lewis Hamilton and George Russell.

Clarifying his throttle message on the radio Ferrari boss Mattia Binotto said:

“What you heard on the radio was about when he was in reverse gear trying to get out from the barriers. There is a strategy, without going into all the details, that [meant] he was on the throttle, but didn’t feel sufficient torque from the engine. It was nothing wrong. Simply the strategy there.”

Charles Leclerc’s misfortune played in favor of Red Bull and Max Verstappen. The Dutch went on to win the race and extend his Championship lead to 63 points. Verstappen seem to have an edge in his battle with Charles Leclerc
