Alexander Arnold and Liverpool Poor Performances

Liverpool’s Alexander Arnold’s game against Utd has been leading the headlines. Although the match was tied but his defensive errors were very much highlighted after the game. The supporters were also not pleased hearing his speculated move to Madrid this summer.

Trent’s defensive errors have surely come under scrutiny lately. He was heavily criticized following the Reds 2-2 draw against Utd on Sunday. Lisandro Martinez scored the first goal with an attack from the right side and Amad Diallo also scored from a cross coming up from the right as well.

Football statisticians Opta reported that 44% of the opponents touches are in the right side of Liverpool. This is the highest ratio in the Premier League so far this season.

Arne Slot On Trent

Slot said ” I do see a specific pattern in the goals we concede but I don’t see the pattern if it is about Trent. Not at all.”

“He has had one difficult game for us (Sunday’s 2-2 draw at Anfield against Manchester United) and maybe a few that were OK to good. Mainly, he has had great games when he played for us this season.”

“I know there is a lot of focus on him at the moment but I would also like to highlight the focus on how well he did when he came on in the last half hour (against the Spurs in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday) and how our fans reacted to him. That is what pleased me even more during that game.”

Trent Alexander Arnold Facing Backlash

Fans at almost every clubs feel that they have a right to ownership over the players career. Trent being born and raised in Liverpool seems to be the key in being targeted with insults or abuse during the games.

In an interview in October to Sky Sports, he said that he would rather win a Ballon d’Or than another Champions League with his boyhood club. This statement of his have definitely made some supporters upset and irritated. Ever since, the fans believe that he is more focused on winning the most prestigious individual award and his own achievements.

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher speaking on Sky Sports said,” I have constantly defended him. The lad came from nothing and if he leaves for nothing, there should be no criticism for that.”

“My only problem with Trent, if he leaves, I’m not angry or upset with him, its disappointment. My only disappointment is he is a local lad, Liverpool fan. Equaling Manchester United in league titles, winning a European Cup, he could be captaining this side in two or three years and the guy who lifts these trophies”

“The supporters are sad, that’s where my disappointment comes from.”

Alexander Arnold’s Place at Liverpool

Trent has given the Reds his best years. The balance of creativity and risk on the right under Klopp, started something big. His creative urgency at a consistent level that too being a full-back is amazing. He seemed to move up the ranks as one of those players who understand the game perfectly. His astonishing passing has everyone admiring. At his absolute best he dribbles and creates space to build up the attack. Although the ability to sense the danger early while defending may be one of his weaknesses that needs to worked on.

He has been a key player for his club this season so far. Controlling the play while building up the attacks and his high quality passing, he has been a game changer after all. Few defensive mistakes have shadowed his overall good campaign.
