Liverpool are yet to sign their first player under their new manager Arne Slot. The club brought in former Feyenoord manager Arne Slot as the Reds’ new manager after the departure of Jurgen Klopp. But it has been more than one and a half months since Slot joined the club, but still, the Liverpool fans are waiting for their first summer signing under their new manager.
However, recently news came out about Liverpool’s interest in signing Spanish international Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad. Liverpool are eager to sign the 25-year-old midfielder in this summer transfer window. Spanish side Real Sociedad already realized the interest of Liverpool in signing Martin Zubimendi. Zubimendi has a release clause of 60M in his current contract with the Spanish side and Sociedad might not accept any lower offer than 60M at this moment.
The past three seasons were outstanding for the Spaniard with Real Sociedad. Zubimendi mainly plays as the number six on the pitch. In the last three seasons, he appeared more than 135 times for the Spanish side with an average of more than 45 times per season. The Spaniard also catches the attention of the big clubs after his recent performance in Euro 2024 with Spain. He was one of the key players in the Real Sociedad side, but still, the club is happy to sell him this summer if Liverpool are willing to pay the release clause of the Player.
Will Martin Zubimendi join Liverpool?
Liverpool are yet to complete their first signing of this season’s summer transfer window. While other big six clubs of the Premier League already signed a few players. But new manager Arne Slot is still searching for the first name of who could join the Reds. The last time this kind of scenario happened was when Klopp made zero transfers in the first six weeks of the transfer window ahead of the 2019/20 season. They made two new signings later on in that transfer window. And Liverpool ended up winning the Premier League season, for the first time in 30 years. That shows making new signings is not everything, it is about the tactics and your performance that change your game.
However, the number six position is something that Slot needs to fill ahead of the new Premier League season. After the departure of high-profile midfielders such as Henderson, Fabinho, and most recently Thiago Alcantara, the Reds are looking for a new high-profile number six who could play for them for a long time. Zubimendi is 25 years old and established himself as a very good midfielder in recent years. Apart from that he is also a versatile player, can play as a central midfielder and can also come down the pitch and play as a defensive midfielder to help the defenders. So, he could be a perfect fit in the current Liverpool team.
Now, the question is whether Zubimendi wants to leave the club this summer or not. Recently, lots of rumors were going on about his move to either Arsenal or Bayern Munich, but the Spaniard is showing no interest of leaving the club.
