Liverpool are ready to pay Lazio’s valuation of £61.5 for Sergej Milinkovic-Savic amidst problems in midfield
Liverpool has had a dreadful start to their season so far. Currently, they are a burnt-out team with no intensity or structure. Their midfield has lacked the edge that made them finalists in three major competitions. Their defense is in shambles and out of form. But, the issue mainly stems from the midfield. Thiago, Henderson, Milner, and Keita are all on the wrong side of 30 and are struggling to maintain their ferocious intensity. Liverpool didn’t reinforce their aging midfield and are paying the price. To address this deficit, the club wants to bring Lazio’s star midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic to Anfield. This is according to Calciomercato, which states that Liverpool are ready to pay Lazio’s total valuation of £61.5 to acquire the player.
A cash-and-player deal seems most likely for Liverpool to lure out Sergej at this point. We had already reported that Liverpool are willing to offer defender Joe Gomez to persuade Lazio to sell the player. This looks more and more likely with each match that Liverpool plays. Injuries to loanee midfielder Arthur and forward Luis Diaz will only aggravate the need for a midfielder in the January window if the Reds want a top-four finish.
Sergej is a top creative force in Serie A. He has had four goals and five assists so far in nine matches for Lazio. Liverpool are lacking this creative spark in the midfield. As such, an all-out deal for Sergej could provide stability to their squad until the next summer window. Moreover, Liverpool are heavily linked with a move for Dortmund wonderkid Jude Bellingham in the next summer transfer window, a deal which will go a long way to fill up the cracks that are there in the midfield.
