Liverpool 1 – 1 Chelsea: Post Match Analysis

The Uefa Champions League winners Chelsea faced Liverpool in a 1-1 draw on Saturday, August 28, 2021, at Anfield. 

The Uefa Super Cup winners Chelsea and Liverpool came into this game by thrashing their opponents in the first two encounters in the Premier League. They both were unbeatable before and after this fixture. On one side, Chelsea have beaten Crystal Palace and Arsenal 3-0 and 2-0 respectively. On the other side, Liverpool beat Norwich City and Burnley 3-0 and 2-0 respectively.

Thereafter, Chelsea and Liverpool both played to a 1-1 draw in the third-week fixture of the Premier League. Moreover, Both teams are strong contenders to win this year’s title. Both the squad have big names in their squad who have proved themselves to be match winners. For Chelsea it’s César, Azpilicueta Romelu Lukaku, Mason Mount and Kai Havertz. On the other side it’s Virgil Van Djik, Diego Jota, Mohammad Salah and Sadio Mane.

Kai Havertz of Chelsea started the proceeding of scoring goals in the 22nd minute through a header. And, the goal assisted by Reece James. Liverpool equalised the square through a penalty taken by Mohammad Salah in the 45+3 minutes. The penalty was awarded to the Reds as Reece James tried to save the goal on the goaline through his hands. 

Both side’s players created chances in the game but were able to convert only a single goal for their club. Thus, the goalkeepers Edouard Mendy of Chelsea and Alisson Becker of Liverpool have made brilliant saves for their respective clubs. There were three cards given in the game and all of them gone to Chelsea. Antonio Rudriger and Reece James got a yellow and red card respectively in the 45+3 minutes and Edouard Mendy got a yellow card in the 45+5 minutes.

Chelsea and Liverpool are firmly sitting in fourth and fifth position in the Premier League points table with two wins and a draw and seven points.

Next fixtures for Chelsea and Liverpool

Liverppol will be facing Leeds in their next encounter away from home at Elland Road Stadium on September 11, 2021.

Chelsea will face Aston Villa for their first win of the season at The Stamford Bridge Stadium on September 12, 2021.
