Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold will not be available for Sunday’s Premier League clash with Manchester City. The Englishman missed Liverpool’s 5-1 win away to Porto in the Champions League in midweek due to a muscle issue.
Manager Jurgen Klopp has confirmed the right-back will not be available when Pep Guardiola’s side visit Anfield. Alexander-Arnold has also been omitted from England’s squad for World Cup qualifiers against Andorra and Hungary.
However, Klopp was optimistic the player will be fit after the International break, along with Thiago Alcantara. Speaking to liverpoolfc.com, Klopp said “No ‘news’ means they are doing well but they won’t have enough time for being back against City, but I expect them both to be back after the international break.
“But we have a good team so we still have solutions and we have to use them and yeah, after the international break the boys will be back I think.”
Liverpool to miss Trent Alexander-Arnold going forward
Alexander-Arnold already boasts three assists from six games in all competitions this season. His passing range and crossing ability will definitely be a big miss for Liverpool in a crunch game against fellow title challengers. Thankfully for Jurgen Klopp, Neco Williams has shaken off an ankle injury and is available for selection.
Liverpool head into the match off the back of a 3-3 draw with Brentford in the league last weekend. They sit atop the English Premier League table, after earning 14 points from their opening five matches. The Reds will look to extend their lead further going into the International break.
Man City will be hoping to bounce back after their defeat in France against PSG in the Champions League. They can draw inspiration from their 1-0 win at Stamford Bridge against Chelsea last time out in the Premier League.
Liverpool go into Sunday’s game against City as the only unbeaten team remaining in the Premier League. They will be looking to maintain their one-point advantage over City at the top of the table.
