Liverpool have kicked off their pre season and a new era under the new coach Arne Slot, he earned his first victory as Liverpool defeated Real Betis with 1-0 score at Acrisure Stadium in United States.
The only goal of the game was score by Dominik Szoboszlai, he converted the a pass from Mohamed Salah into the goal in the first half of the game, it is record that there were around 42,679 fans present at the Acrisure Stadium.
Arne Slot used 23 players in this match including some youngsters and this team was able to beat the Spanish club, Liverpool was looking good in the match especially in the first half.
Liverpool playing in a new style under new manager
They will now fly to Philadelphia on this saturday and will prepare for their next game on next wednesday to play their second game against their English rival Arsenal.
The match against Real Betis in Pittsburgh was the first proper glimpse that the fans saw of the new era of Liverpool under Arne Slot.
Before the start of the match everyone was excited to see who will Liverpool going to play with the absence of so many important players and the addition of some new yong players from the academy, but after the match everyone was stunned because of what they saw, the Dutchman handled the team perfectly and it was not looking like, it was his first match as manager. His tactics were pinpoint and the way he worked with the youngstars was good.
Liverpool did not had a lot of options for this game, as Diogo Jota was not available as he came on the tour on Thursday and there was not enough time to train him for the game, on the other side Darwin Nunez, Cody Gakpo and Luis Diaz are still on holiday and have not returned yet, the youngster Jayden Danns did not joined the team because of the injury.
Arne Slot was open to some experiments and we saw that on the pitch, the Liverpool team playing in 4-2-4 very effectively where Szoboszlai and Harvey Elliott playing as false number nines in the first half of the game and Salah and Fabio Carvalho returning from the loan were playing on the flanks.
Szoboszlai the player to watch in this season
In this new style of play, Liverpool did not had any striker and this was a reason that they were struggling a lot to retain and maintain possession in the first half, but this did not stopped them to attack, their attacking style was working and just before the half time, Szoboszlai scored the goal and gave the reds the lead of the match and in the end that goal became the winning goal of the game.
It is true that they were struggling to retain the possession but that did not meant that they were not able to make the attack, they made many chances but unable to score but one chance which they converted into the goal, it was when Hungarian midfielder received the ball he hold the for a second and gave a beautiful pass of the Egyptian winger Salah on the right side and after passing the ball, he made a very intelligent run inside the penalty box and Salah saw the player’s run and passed the ball back to him and the pass from Egyptian was too good, it directly landed on the Szoboszlai’s foot and Hungarian did not need to do anything just tap the ball inside the net and scored a very easy goal.
Other than Szoboszlai, Wataru Endo was an another player who was quite good in the match, he was decent in last season too, he played 43 games last season after making his move to Liverpool from Stuttgart at £16.2m price tag. According that price tag, his performance is exceptional.
