Liverpool will be in a transition state in the upcoming 2024/25 season. Jurgen Kloop said farewell to Anfield after almost a decade. Arne Slot has already been appointed by the Reds as their new manager. According to recent reports, farewell of German manager could be soon followed by arrival of German player who is considered as on the best in the world at his position. Liverpool could be seen making a move for Bayern Munich star who is exceptional at his job. Joshua Kimmich has a contract with Bayern until 2025 and its reported that it will not be renewed. This could mark a new chapter in the full back’s life.
Joshua Kimmich’s future
Kimmich began his professional career at RB Leipzig in 2013. Two years later Bayern Munich made an approach for him and offered the full back a 5 year contract. Ever since 2015, Kimmich has been Bayern Munich’s key player and has helped the club in winning some prestigious trophies. The 29 year old primarily plays as a right back. However he is extremely versatile and plays exceptionally well as a midfielder too. Kimmich has won eight Bundesliga titles with Bayern Munich. He was also the only assist provider in Champions League final in 2020.
Kimmich’s current contract with Bayern Munich expires in 2025. According to reports, Kimmich’s contract is not going to be renewed. Bayern Munich are demanding ยฃ25 million for the full back according to Daily Star. Liverpool are one of the few clubs that Kimmich is interested to join. The Reds currently have two right backs in the squad who were used consistently by Jurgen Klopp.
Can Liverpool sign Bayern Munich star
Liverpool have Trent Alexander Arnold who played as club’s regular starter for many years. However we may see him playing as defensive midfielder next season, which is same as what he is doing for England currently at Euros. Conor Bradley is another right back who played 11 Premier League matches in 2023/24 season. The youngster even scored 1 goal along with assisting 3 times. This may raise a question about Liverpool going after Joshua Kimmich. However, journalist Florian Plettenberg believes Kimmich may end up at Anfield next season.
Plettenberg said that Kimmich may leave this summer if a suitable offer arrives. He said that Bayern have other plans and are after Joao Palhinha. He also added that if not this year, Kimmich will definately leave next year after his current contract expires. Bayern would not want to lose their star for free and hence may part ways with German international in this summer itself.
It has also been revealed that Kimmich only wants to join Manchester City, Real Madrid, Arsenal, Liverpool and FC Barcelona. This gives Liverpool a one in five chance which is not bad at all. The only concern is the right back’s age and the wages he currently is on at Munich. Liverpool signed Thiago Alcantara from Bayern Munich a few years ago. We may witness the Reds repeating this move soon.
Man City interested in Kimmich
Kyle Walker is a regular starter for Pep Guardiola at the right back place. However the English international is now 34 years old and hence the club needs to find his potential replacement. Pep Guardiola has played a very important role in transforming Kimmich when he was Bayern Manager. The Spaniard is a huge admirer of German international and has claimed that he loves Kimmich. Reuniting Pep with Kimmich for ยฃ25 million will be a very good move for the Premier League Champions who won their fourth League title in a row recently.
