Liverpool Darwin Nunez has impressed the manager as Arne Slot says Liverpool have not got the best out of Nunez.
Liverpool Boss Slot Comments on Darwin Nunez:
The Reds manager admits that his side has not been able to get the best out of the Uruguayan so far. Although he has backed the out-of-form striker to be back at his best.
The forward has managed to score just four goals all season. Luiz Diaz and Diogo Jota often preferred to lead the line over the striker. As a result he has lost his place from the starting 11.
Slot said, “Darwin is a striker we have to use in a certain way and we were able yet to bring the best out of him this season. Against Accrington Stanley again you saw that he has a lot of pace but, unfortunately for him. Most teams sit back a lot of against us.
“If you look back at the goals he has scored for us, I remember the one against Aston Villa. When he went around the keeper on a fast break, that is his main strength. He has other qualities as well. We are still working on getting him in the best possible positions against a low block.
“That involves the right timings, the right crosses, the right positions to start from and making the right run. But I also see, and don’t know if other people see this, the way team defend our No 9 is something you have to give credit to the other teams for.
“It’s never,’ Here Darwin, you can score’. Every time we put in a cross I see a defender all over him. I see it, referees unfortunately don’t. It’s more difficult to score against a team like Forest. Because every time we had a chance they has six, seven, eight, nine or ten players in the box.
” Darwin will score his goals. He already did he will again.”
Saudi Talks For Liverpool’s Darwin Nunez:
The reports on Saudi Arabian sides having interest in the 25-year-old have been in the air for quite time.
According to Mail Sport, the interest is genuine but Liverpool have had zero official approaches to sign the striker from Saudi Arabia or otherwise.
The Reds, few days ago, had reportedly responded to a huge offer from the Saudi Pro League giants Al-Hilal for the forward.
The initial verbal bid from Al-Hilal of £70 million was rejected by the club. It was reported that the Premier League leaders have set a huge £85 million price tag on the Uruguayan international.
Game Time for Nunez at Liverpool
With Diogo Jota most likely to be out with a slight injury for the away game against Brentford. Nunez may get his minutes to prove his worth this weekend. Jota may not be completely rested but Slot said it was a ‘difficult’ to see the Portuguese forward being available.
Slot on Nunez,” It’s not my perception that he’s struggling with self-confidence. He was involved in the first goal against Accrington Stanley. He was involved in the goal against Fulham that Jota scored and he scored one against Southampton.
“After that he hasn’t had many starts. For me, it’s like the life of a striker, sometimes you score and sometimes you don’t. Darwin will score goals, like he has done for this club already.”
Author’s Opinion
It’s great to see how Arne Slot is backing Darwin Nunez on getting his form back this season. The striker, at his best, can be vital in big games. Unfortunately he hasn’t been clinical in front of the goal so far. With less game time and lesser starts for the Reds, he may have lost his confidence. It isn’t a great sight to see a player struggle. It will be interesting to see how Slot manages this situation if the forward stays at Anfield this transfer window.
